As reported by Catherine Foo Bee Yen, the SJIS IGCSE Coordinator:

On 15th of April 2017, 25 students from St John's International School participated in the Mind Competitions hosted by University Tunku Abdul Rahman(UTAR). All participants accompanied by SJIS Mathematics teachers; Ms Pooja Tank, Ms Teh Siok Yan and Ms Miresah took part in Mind Competitions which was held in UTAR, Sungai Long Campus. The participants were tested in 3 different events -- Memory, Mental Calculations and Mind Mapping.

Among these three, SJIS was the most strongly represented in the Memory Competitions, which in itself was divided into four categories: Random Words, Random Numbers, Dates and Events and Random Letters of the Alphabet. Tong Hui Qi (Year 11-1), rose to the occasion to clinch the 10th place in the Random Letters of the Alphabet category with a score of 104.

On the 8th July 2017, two of our students, accompanied by Ms Catherine Foo Bee Yen, attended the prize giving ceremony for the Mind Competitions at the Sports Complex Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (Kuala Lumpur Main Campus).

This function was held in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the 13th Malaysian Festival of the Mind organized by Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement (MMLM) and was officiated by Yang Bhg Tan Sri Lim Hock San, Managing Director of LBS Bina Group.

The theme for the festival this year is 'Great Minds'. The festival congregated ' great minds ' from all levels of society to learn ways to improve and sharpen their minds. These activities encourage community integration and unity as they can be participated by people from all walks of life.
