At the start of the new academic year, Marlborough College Malaysia welcomed Mr Simon Burbury as the next Master of Marlborough College Malaysia, succeeding Mr Alan Stevens who stepped down in July 2023. Simon and his wife, Jennifer, joined the College in August 2023 from Dollar Academy, an HMC co-educational boarding and day school in Scotland, where he was Deputy Rector since 2020.

Simon was educated at Lancaster Royal Grammar School before gaining a BA in Music Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, a Master’s Degree in Music from Lancaster University and his teaching qualification from Homerton College, Cambridge.  Following appointments as Director of Music in Cairo, at Tanglin Trust in Singapore and at Gordonstoun in Scotland, he moved to Dollar in 2015 as Assistant Rector. He is a Fellow of the RSA, a keen dinghy sailing instructor, diver and runner.

On his appointment, Simon said, “I am immensely proud and excited to have been invited to be the next Master of Marlborough College Malaysia. Jenny and I have been particularly impressed by the Council’s commitment, passion and ambition for the College, the pupils’ sense of pride in their school and the breadth and depth of opportunity provided by the beaks. The community is clearly strong and thriving, committed to providing children with an outstanding academic experience and a wealth of opportunities beyond the academic curriculum. I look forward to forging even closer ties with Marlborough College in the UK and continuing to build a world class legacy for this wonderful school.”
