Year(s) and Subject(s) Taught
Year 12 and 13 Psychology
How long have you been teaching?
7 years.
Why did you become a teacher? Why did you choose teaching as a profession?
I became a teacher because I have always loved helping others to learn – even at college I was always the one tutoring my friends or working with them to help them understand.
Tell us about your own education journey (where did you study to become a teacher?).
My whole teaching career began on the job - I received an email whilst at University offering a scholarship to complete a Master’s in Education in Malaysia and though this sounded like an incredible opportunity so I went for it and was accepted. It was only after that I realised I was now moving to Malaysia! After that I completed my PGCEi whilst at Tenby and continue to work on my teaching every day.
What is the most memorable moment in your teaching career so far?
I think one of the most memorable things was when I was teaching and I received a letter from a student saying how much I had inspired them and made them love Psychology. This was really special as it was difficult to gage very much from this student so the letter was a huge surprise.
What do you like most about teaching?
I enjoy teaching a subject that I love and trying to make it interesting and exciting so that my students love it as much as I do.
What is the best thing about teaching at your school?
The best thing is that my leadership team has a lot of faith and trust in me so I can really deliver my lessons in any way that I feel works and make them as active as possible and always feel supported.
Who or what inspires you?
My mum inspires me a lot as she too studied Psychology and actually did so at night school whilst she was raising me and my sister so it is amazing to be able to talk to her about all the things I am teaching and for her to be able to give me ideas and relate to it.
What is the one thing you wish all students would do?
I wish they would do their homework! Because I mainly set reading as homework as my subject is so content heavy so it makes it very difficult to conduct my lessons if they don’t come prepared.
